Winter archtop guitar projects- Sam Kulok Model 16, Gilad Hekselman III… more assembly, stain, paint…

Continued work on these projects. Some cool stuff to see is the OM inlay for Gilad’s fretboard, serial engraving, side bending, etc. Check out the deep earthy staining!

I’m using really fine European cello tonewood here throughout. During carving I ran into a hidden defect on Gilad’s backplate. We talked about it and decided to use it anyway instead of throwing it out. Some builders or players shy away from or reject defects like that but we decided not to argue with mother nature- it would look just fine with the earthy stain finish theme we picked. In fact I think it looks really beautiful! This wood grew in the forest for hundreds of years and i feel weird to just “throw it out”- see this video.
