The Blog is back for 2016!!! Binding a D’Angelico New Yorker archtop !

After a long hiatus, I finally am making some time to start up the guitar shop blog again! Its good to be back in the saddle. Things have been crazy busy here on all the projects for D’Angelico, but I have been steadily taking pictures of the many guitar projects all this year. Time to post them all and show you what cool things are coming together. I’ll have stuff from all throughout 2015!

So to get started, here’s a little photo tour through the binding process I did today on one of the New Yorker models I am making for D’Angelico. These guitars are super ornate and have heavy multi layer binding work done with vintage celluloid, which is always a great challenge. But Ive come up with a few tricks to help the process, and to save the heavy wear and tear on my hands I used to endure with other methods. I came up with some nifty body holding methods in the form of a dish shaped like the body arch, as well as some very helpful clamps i recently invented. The process is still not “easy” but is surprisingly quick compared to past ways (2 days compared to 3 or 4). And turns out perfect!
