Sutherland / Sloan 14″ archtop projects underway!

I’ve started two more of my winter projects- two similar 14″ guitars. VERY excited about these two. I bought some really old cello wood from a violin supplier in Europe, and the stuff looks fantastic. The pieces were long enough to get two guitars from! Both feature snow white Alpine spruce tops. One will be carved from deep flame maple, the other will have a laminate back of maple with a show face of some SUPER rare quilted Apa. My veneer guy says its the rarest of the rare and will probably never see it again (!!!). I just had to make some guitars out of this stuff!

Both guitars will be decked out head to toe with binding and pearl work. Some rough dimensioning, joining, rough carving, veneer layup, and F hole binding work shown here. These two will definitely be eye candy in the end i cant wait!

I have more Quilted Apa (kind of like mahogany), as well as the other half of the maple cello stock for 14″. Contact me to reserve!
