Model 15 Thinline Archtop for Ken Nieves “Malia” model! Neck work…

Hi guys- I started out on a new project for my client Ken just before the holidays. I’m back in the shop doing more work on the project- it will be 15″ x 2″ deep thinline archtop named after his daughter Malia. It will be x braced with 2 humbuckers, and will be finished in an earthy brown stain maybe sort of like this one with more of a perimeter burst.

This neck is laminated flame maple with a scarf jointed head. The flame head face will be stained also to match the body color, and the rear of the head will be black like the back of a super 400 neck (love that!). The neck undergoes many machining operations on my milling table and comes out pretty close to finished. I’ve worked on my CAD neck renderings for many years and have them tweaked to the max. After i spend some time at the sanding table doing the finishing touches it will feel just right.

This neck gets my compound mounting style that i came up with last year (inspired by classical guitar construction). It allows an angled neck / body joint for better access to the upper register (no more hand clunking on a bulky square heel block). It also will never come loose or creep since it is one piece. AND its less labor intensive than fitting a mortise and tenon dovetail so it helps keep my prices lower! :^) ohhh yea BONUS!
