Custom laminate archtop project

Birdseye Laminate Model 16- Top and Back lamination

In a recent post i mention i made a laminate model for Bill at Legato. The plates i used for that project were pressed for me by Steve Holst. Nice plates, and the guitar really turned my head in how nice it sounded. But i wasnt entirely happy with the arch. So I decided to design and machine my own arch vacuum form in order to be able to laminate soundboard and back plates just how i like ’em. This guitar will feature 6 layer plates. The cabinet guys here at the new shop have a cool vacuum table, and i used it to veneer my first set of new plates here in house. Worked like a charm! Both plates are made of birch and veneered with alternating grain direction per layer. The back has a nice birdseye outer shell, the soundboard has a bookmatched spruce shell (I bandsawed and prepared my own spruce veneer here at the shop!).

Im excited to be offering a laminate model. 6 months ago I wouldnt have even thought of making one. Glad Bill Fender asked me to make one, because I really like the sound!
