New ebony archtop guitar tailpiece!

Ok… so I am very restless with tailpiece design. This will be my 11th production tail that I have come up with for the archtops. I have fun continually designing, and I’m always looking for a balance of ease of use, elegance and (on the shop side) smooth fabrication. This one definitely fits the bill on all fronts. The design begins with the classic violin style keyhole string mount. It starts out as a 1/2″ block of ebony, and uses a brass undercarriage for strength and proper string grounding. I can also use flame maple as the show face- there are a couple examples of that here. The maple is stained black with dye and given a wax sealing. Looks great and keeps with the ebony style aesthetic.

On the shop side of things, they are much easier to build. So much so that I can probably offer them for sale. Some of the other tailpieces I have used took a full day and a half for me to build. I liked them but couldnt really afford make many of them.

Now let’s see if I can stick with this one or if I come up with something even cooler! ;^)
