A new look to the website and blog!!! Spring archtop guitar projects fully underway…

Well, things have been super busy here at the shop (and also alot of things going on musically) so sadly its been impossible to keep up with the blog. But the smoke has cleared just enough to jump back into picture taking and blog posting much to my delight. Its fun doing this! So take a look around and  check out the new look!

I’ll have some photo finals trickling in of the early winter guitars that went out recently. The run was a huge success, some serious guitars in the batch! Also the Late winter run is wrapping up and photos of those should be on the way too. The new designs I included on the latest ergo guitar turned out great!

As always, while one batch of guitars has their finishes curing as well as during the required settling time after first stringing them up, I start the roughing stages on the next bunch of guitars. There are some super interesting instruments in store with these, including a new model. Ive always wanted to do a Les Paul size version of my guitars, and my repeat customer Brian Mikiten came to me with the opportunity to finally develop it. It has a small Les Paul size 12-3/4 width body, and Brian and I bought some intense heavy figure spalted maple for the tops. I have a whole post planned for showing that wood. Truly remarkable stuff! I had enough for two guitars so I am making one for inventory as well. Brians guitar will have a quilted mahogany back (!), and the spec guitar will have a chambered swamp ash body.

Another intense project will be the grand finale guitar for Patrice Falco. Patrice is awesome, he ordered many of my guitars (Ive kind of lost count actually haha). This is the last one we have planned and its a beauty. This model 14 will feature some truly remarkable flame koa for the back and sides, be decked out in flame maple, have my newer crown inlays and last but not least one of the Alphonse Mucha inlay patterns Ive developed on the headstock. Crazy!!!

Other guitars include a laminate 16 as well as a couple 14’s with that cool earthy brown violin double stain finish thats been popular lately. Serious fun!!! Heres pics so far:

I was incredibly nervous bookmatching the koa on the bandsaw. The material is ultra rare and in some ways irreplaceable. Brand new blade and fine tuned setup. Yes!
